Genome Sequencing

Turn business strategy from an art into a computational science — a shared vocabulary humans and AI can both reason in.

A genome is one value per dimension: CREATE_NEW · BUILD · PRODUCT · AI_AUTONOMOUS · COMPOUND · …

01 — THE PAIR

Who you are, and where you can go

Two tools, one substrate. Nova reads what a business is made of. Genome Sequencing reasons about what it can become.

Nova is cause, genome is choice. The substrate is what you have after the burn; the genome is what you decide to plant in it. The same risk-substrate can fuel an Accountable Intermediary or a Verification Provider — different choices, same input.

02 — ARCHITECTURE

Three layers

Identity, context, and analysis are distinct levels — and they don't mix. Identity is intrinsic; context is extrinsic; analysis is derived.

Layer 1 · WHAT

Genome

What the business is.

  • 10 orthogonal dimensions
  • One value per dimension
  • Intrinsic identity — survives a market move
Layer 2 · WHERE

Context

Where it operates.

  • Market boundary + instance
  • Company profile
  • Geography · regulation
Layer 3 · RESULTS

Sequenced

What we conclude.

  • Pattern matches · moats
  • Risks · opportunities
  • Competitive position
03 — THE GENOME

Ten dimensions, one sequence

A genome is a composition across orthogonal dimensions — not a bucket. Pick one value per dimension; reading down is the sequence. Load a shape to see how a real composition lights up, or click values to compose your own.

Closed, small enums (3–6 values each) force categorical decisions instead of analyst drift. Named shapes are emergent — a label for a composition, not a primitive.

04 — CONTEXT

Where the genome is deployed

Context is extrinsic — it would change if the company moved markets, geography, or segment. The same genome runs differently in different environments.

05 — PLUG-INS

Industry knowledge, pluggable

Domain experts contribute industry plug-ins: constraints that validate a genome against real-world rules, plus hard-won insights. Registered in a plug-in registry; extended from a contribution template.

Each plug-in is an IndustryPluginid · constraints · insights · patterns — registered in a PluginRegistry and matched to a market by industry. A contribution template lets any domain expert add one: define the constraint, set ERROR or WARNING, write the message explaining why it exists.

06 — SEQUENCED

What sequencing returns

Compose a genome in a context and the toolkit derives the analysis — pattern matches, moats, risks, opportunities, competitive position — plus market-scale moves like white-space detection and pattern evolution.

Patterns

Matched shapes

Nearest known genomes, with a 0–1 similarity score. same genome, same fight.

Moats

Risks

What could break

Each scored by probability × impact, with a mitigation.

Opportunities

What's open

Sized LOW → TRANSFORMATIVE, with a timeframe and the requirements to capture them.

Competitive

Position

Direct competitors, substitute threats, market maturity, differentiation level.

Toolkit

At market scale

White-space detection across a boundary, successful-pattern lookup, and pattern evolution over time.

Execution metrics track the genome live — stage (PLANNED → SCALING → MATURE → PIVOTING), market fit, growth, and a pivot history of from → to with the reason.

07 — NAMED SHAPES

Emergent compositions

Adding a named genome is free — it's just a label for a composition the dimensions already produce. Adding a dimension is constitutional. These are shorthand for sequences seen often enough to name.

08 — THE CONSTITUTION

Nine principles

The vocabulary is positioned to stay stable and citable for 5+ years. That requires a constitution — the rules that govern what belongs in the genome and what does not. Every extension must cite which principles it satisfies. Taste is not a justification.

P1

Composition over classification

The genome is a composition across dimensions, not a named bucket. Naming a composition is free; adding a dimension is constitutional.

P2

Each dimension must change the business

Swapping a value must produce a different business — different sales motion, pricing, competitors — not different features.

P3

Orthogonality

Dimensions are independent. Knowing one shouldn't predict another. Cross-products must populate, not cluster on the diagonal.

P4

Three levels

Identity, context, and analysis don't mix. Intrinsic vs. extrinsic vs. derived — conflating them drifts the vocabulary toward marketing.

P5

Substrate is cause, genome is choice

What you have after the burn (Nova) is not a genome dimension. Assets are substrate; what you build on them is the genome.

P6

The Stranger Test

A stranger must apply the dimension to a new ISV correctly, with no author in the room. Insider vocabulary disqualifies.

P7

Closed, small enums

3–6 mutually exclusive, collectively exhaustive values per dimension. Soft ceiling of six — a seventh signals a hidden split.

P8

AI-first, human-friendly

Designed for agents to apply at scale; readable by humans as a side effect. Uppercase enums, explicit compositions.

P9

Same genome, same fight

Two ISVs with identical genomes are in the same competition. Resolution is tuned to land dozens of meaningful clusters — not one, not hundreds.

EXT

Extension protocol

New dimension/value/shape needs: statement, principle citations (P2+P4 mandatory, P3 demonstrated), two real examples, backward-compat note, substrate companion edit.

When in doubt — three questions, in order
  1. Does swapping this dimension produce a different business? P2
  2. Is it intrinsic identity, extrinsic context, or derived analysis? P4
  3. Could a stranger apply it correctly? P6

The DSL is descriptive vocabulary — it makes legible what business you're in, what you're moving to, and what the gap requires. It does not prescribe the right move; that decision is the ISV's. The principles govern the language, not the theory.
